थोडक्यात इतिहास | A short history

महाराष्ट्र म्हणजे मराठी माणसाचं राज्य. मराठी भाषा किमान हजार वर्षं जुनी आहे. संत ज्ञानेश्वरांनी १२९० मध्ये ज्ञानेश्वरी मराठीत लिहिली, तेव्हापासून ती घराघरात पोहोचली.

Maharashtra is the home of the Marathi language, which is at least a thousand years old. When Sant Dnyaneshwar wrote the Dnyaneshwari in Marathi in 1290, it reached every home.

दोन हजार वर्षांपूर्वी इथे सातवाहनांचं राज्य होतं. अजिंठा आणि वेरूळची लेणी त्याच काळापासून पुढे कोरली गेली.

Two thousand years ago the Satavahanas ruled here. The caves of Ajanta and Ellora were carved from that time onwards.

ज्ञानेश्वर, नामदेव, एकनाथ, तुकाराम अशा संतांनी भक्तीचा मार्ग सोप्या मराठीत सांगितला. पंढरपूरची वारी आजही तशीच चालू आहे.

Saints like Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, Eknath and Tukaram taught devotion in simple Marathi. The walk to Pandharpur continues to this day.

१६७४ मध्ये शिवाजी महाराजांचा रायगडावर राज्याभिषेक झाला आणि स्वराज्य उभं राहिलं. पुढे फुले, शाहू, आंबेडकर, टिळक यांनी शिक्षण, समता आणि स्वातंत्र्यासाठी काम केलं.

In 1674 Shivaji Maharaj was crowned at Raigad and Swarajya was born. Later Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar and Tilak worked for education, equality and freedom.

१ मे १९६० रोजी मराठी भाषिकांचं महाराष्ट्र राज्य स्थापन झालं. म्हणून आपण महाराष्ट्र दिन साजरा करतो.

On 1 May 1960 the state of Maharashtra was formed for Marathi speakers. That is why we celebrate Maharashtra Din.
